DESCRIPTION:

Her first book, Disentangle: When You've Lost Your Self in Someone Else, was published by Central Recovery Press in 2011.. Johnston specializes in treating adolescents and adults, and has always had a special interest in addiction and its effects on both individuals and family systems. She has thirty-three years of clinical experience addressing a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues. Johnston shares the life lessons she learned from her observations of the relationship behaviors exhibited by her pet collie, Daisy: "The book began by my noticing behaviors in Daisy that resemble the codependent behaviors in me, which I have been working

"I am a border collie too!" according to MaryBeth. Nancy tells such engaging stories about border collie and human behavior that I find myself laughing ruefully at my own "herding" tendencies. She is careful to explain that many codependent behaviors are socialized behaviors and not abnormal or sick behaviors. This book is worth reading for people who are concerned that they may be more focused on others than on their "selves".. Karin Miller said excellent book!. This is a very helpful book for anyone seeking help in recovery from codependency. The analogy of the border collie is a creative and accurate one. I highly recomment this as a fun, inspiring and healing book.. Rewrite this book and pick a side: cute story of codependent dogs, or self help manual. Or choose your audience- kids or adults Feral Grrl Got this on the recommendation from a friend. While I get the codependency viewpoint, I think it would work better either as a humorous story of how a border collie acts like a codependent person-- and let a person draw their own conclusions- or an obvious self help book. This tries (unsuccessfully, in my opinion) to do both- and seems to try to hammer the point home, without subtlety. It follows the form

"A practical, easy-reading guide to codependency."—David Nelson, MD"An exceptionally clear and accessible handbook."—Lisa Tracy, author of Objects of Our Affection
