Considering it was written by a 16 year old dropout, Im blown away. Its better than 90% of what MFA students write, trust me. Its an easy read, theres really not much meandering, considering how realistic it makes everything, how each detail shapes the main character. DESCRIPTION:

From Publishers Weekly "I was about thirteen when I started letting the boys feel me up." Thus the reader is catapulted directly into the conflicted world of a smalltown English schoolgirl in 20-year-old Ray's relentlessly driven debut novel (she left school at 16 to write it). Soon she abandons her former, less cool friends and spends lunch hours "snogging" with Robin. She's in luck when she starts dating Robin, who is part of the popular group. Robin loses his masochistic appeal when he says that he loves her, and the narrator moves on to Oliver, a 27-year-old consumer electronics salesman. Strangely, Robin's touch does not appeal to the narrator until he hits her and sh

It evokes the brutalities of adolescence with the lucidity of Two Girls, Fat and Thin. Pure has the shocking immediacy that made Less Than Zero so indelible. A sensational and accomplished novel that made its young author one of the most talked about in Britain last year, Pure is about fourteen -- the age when you know everything, except when you don't know anything. It's about the raw transition between loving your parents as a child and understanding them as an adult. And it's about what happens after. It is sure to establish its author as one of the most remarkable and fearless young writers to emerge in recent years.. It's about first love and the end of innocence in all its passion and absurdity. It's about the cool friend for whom everything seems effortless, and the impossibly embarrassing friend you're nice to when your cool friends can't see. It's about the struggle between desire and duty, and about a chance meeting with a twenty-seven-year-old man

It's an easy read, there's really not much meandering, considering how realistic it makes everything, how each detail shapes the main character. Yes, the MC is a little dumb (mostly just unfeeling and submissive) but I wouldn't say it's unbearable because, unlike most protagonists, she's not the pity-me type. She reminds me a bit of myself and other girls from school. People say how unrealistic the sexuality is in this book, but really think back. There was at least one . "A little too depressing" according to A Customer. I was rather surprised by this book; it wasn't anything like I'd expected. I hadn't thought it would be so sad or disturbing. The climax and conclusion feel as if the author stopped writing a few pages too soon. It was missing a resolution that it desperately needed. That said, Pure is not a bad book, but I personally don't recommend it, unless you like rather depressing books.. "I didn't like it" according to kitten. I just finished reading this book today. Even if the mother had a older boyfriend when she herself was 16, I don't think she would approve of her daughter having a older boyfriend at 14, 2 years younger than she was when she had a older boyfriend.
